A change of tactics overnight. having let Warren steer us all night dawn finds us at the back of the fleet with a small group of three or four others. We beleived it was easier to have them on front so we could see what we had to do except we were about 80 miles to the East of the other 70 odd yachts and have sailed (or should I say drifted) into a wind hole. At the time Dakkar was looking quite attractive as an alternative but we decided to press on and 4 hours of motoring to find wind has fixed that. We will happily accept the penalty rather than risk arriving on the Cape Verdes after closing time. The winds continue to be light, currently only 9 knots but we are making 5 or 6 knots with the help of Big Assy the spinnaker. Those of you tracking our progress please have no worries about the many right angled dinks in or track its just its hard at our age to sing along to Creedence Clearwater Revival and steer at the same time - defenitely no multi tasking going on here. the other dink during the night was when we realised that Hydrovanes just steer they are not prepared to go forward and fix on new jib sheets so a debate too place amonst the night watch as to a) ignore it b) deny it happened on their watch or c) get somebody comnpetent out of bed to fix it so we could sail the right direction.................answers tomorrow
Paul has taken on the role of vegetable turner and now enjoys the task of turning over and talking to the vegetables every day and the crew are happy to reciprocate however the ignored fruit and veg continue to go mouldy!
Right thats it Im off to play eye spy with the seagulls.
