1500 UTC It’s a strange feeling to be approaching land after so many days when neither land nor stopping has been an option. Our chart plotter finally shows something other than endless water around our position. After weeks when landfall was so far in the future as to be purely an abstract concept — easy to dismiss if you thought about it at all — today we’re like kids in the car. Are we there yet? 1800 UTC Landfall, celebrated with our last can of Pringles! 1900 UTC One last spinnaker hoist! 2402 UTC (that is, 00:02 Tuesday) Crossed the finish line! Proud (inordinately) that we made the entire crossing without using our engine for propulsion at all. 2500 UTC Greeted by the welcome committee with rum punch and fruit basket. Sometime Tuesday The crew of DZ hanging out in the cockpit — i.e. a mid-afternoon a lot like every other one for the past three weeks, just with: - boat not rocking - beer |
