Fast 24 hours with North Westerly wind holding up throughout the day. Boat speed ranging between 6-8 kts all day. Nice lunch served on deck was followed by another fast afternoon and early night. Swell progressively became more unpleasant (on the beam) as the day and evening progressed. By 0500hrs when the wind eventually died the boat was rocking horribly. Eventually came into the lee of Porto Santo at 0530hrs in pitch dark and slowly inched our way into the harbour to berth on the reception pontoon at 0600hrs. When the sun came up at 0630 we found ourselves surrounded by spectacular volcanic peaks on three sides.

After a couple of hours rest, we took a tour of the island which is about the size of Valentia. Views were amazing and we could see our next destination - Madeira in the distance.
