After breakfast we walked up to the chandlers shop to buy some varnish. Hah! Guess what? They didnât have any! That must be the fifth or sixth time that I have gone there to buy normal everyday things that you expect chandlers to have in stock and found my request is greeted with the usual Gallic shrug and told âNonâ and an offer to order it for delivery in a weeks time. Since we intend leaving tomorrow I told him âNo thanksâ Back at the boat I got the bikes off the aft deck and we cycled down the canalside road to the lock that leads out on to the River Saone, just to remind ourselves how it operates. The main river looked very quiet and benign. We then cycled around through the village of Reyzousse and back to the  marina. I stopped off at the barge called âJefâ (Andrew and Jennyâs boat ) and arranged for Andrew to run me up to the local garage in his car, in the afternoon, so that I could fill up all our fuel cans. I then returned Madelineâs camera to her with the photographs of our canopy. After lunch on board in the cockpit, in bright sunshine, I read and Maureen knitted until Andrew came and took me up to garage. Maureen left at the same time to walk up to the marina office to pay our berthing dues. She took over an hour to accomplish this due to the complete incompetence of the staff (typical I am afraid). Itâs very annoying, all the infrastructure is in place to make it a very successful business, but let down by itâs staff. After  the evening meal I finished reading my book, Maureen carried on knitting until it got to dark to see and then we turned in early so we would be on the ball in the morning.
