Still at Chartrettes Marina. In the morning, Dominique, the lady off of motor cruiser “El Majo” gave us a lift into the local garage to fill up our diesel cans for the next stage of journey. Then before we set off we found the transmission fluid in the gearbox was once again below the minimum mark on the dipstick. George , the Canadian guy off the cruiser came and had a look at the problem and said the oil we had been sold was too thin and drove me to the local garage and bought 4 litres of the correct stuff. A test run up and down the river proved that there was a leak around the gear box housing. Returned to the marina and tied up outside and waited for Georges return (he had an appointment in Paris but said he would be back by 17:00hrs - He wasn’t!) I rang my cousin John for suggestions. As always he had the answer, clean up the joint with white spirit , cover the joint with silicon sealant and wrap gaffer tape around it. That’s the plan for tomorrow then. Poured with rain all day just to add to our woes.
