Day 5
Day
5 was mainly taken up with running repairs. The cause of the previous nights breakdown
was in fact the oil feed supply to the engine, which if not good, automatically
shuts down the engines. BRP were very efficient at securing the services of
Ardfern Marine to supply an engineer. At 15:30 we finally got the boys away
from Mallaig harbour. This was a great relief to the support crew who were long
in pork pies and little sleep! There
was great celebration on the boat as they passed through the most northerly way
point on the Challenge, just off John O'Groats. The
boat progressed through 14 knots of tide where the Atlantic Ocean meets the
North Sea at Duncansby Head. The
boys arrived in good spirits at Fraserburgh just short of Aberdeen on the north
east of Scotland. 3 Steak and Chips then bed - no beers allowed. Today
13th July they set off for Great Yarmouth in calm conditions. This is a 325
mile crossing some 80 miles off land. They will pass through Oil rigs and ferry
traffic. |
