Evinrude Round Britain Challenge Update

The RIB

Archie, Harry and Jack will attempt the Round Britain Challenge in a 9m RIB. They have been training a lot during the summer 2006 to prepare themselves for their challenge. They took their RIB from the Isle of Wight to Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney. They also ribbed back from Cornwall twice, the first time after doing a week’s work experience on the boat and the second time to deliver the boat back to Bembridge.

The RIB has been completely stripped down to the tubes and the hull, and is currently in Bembridge for its re-fit, which comprises of the following:

  • Two new fuel tanks, which are capable of holding 1100 litres of fuel
  • Twin 250hp Evinrude E-TEC engines, which are one of the cleanest outboard engine technologies on the market today.
  • A new all-weather console, which will provide more protection from the wind and spray from the waves.
  • The RIB is having new seats installed, so that they will have the best possible sitting position and comfort over the waves.
  • GPS, radar and navigation systems
  • Sound system

Comments from Archie, Harry and Jack

Archie Ward – “The first reason for attempting the Evinrude Round Britain Challenge is for charity, but also excitement and the chance to do something memorable and challenging.”

Harry Edwards “I love a challenge, I’m a person who always likes to challenge myself to see what I can achieve, whether it is winning a rugby match or circumnavigating the British Isles in a nine metre RIB. I always want to outdo myself and complete something amazing. Being able to really challenge myself and raise money for charity will be such an amazing experience that I will never be able to forget and I can’t wait.”

Jack Haigh – “Circumnavigating the British Isles in a 9m RIB will be a perfect opportunity for me because I love being on the water and I want to see for myself what I can achieve. This challenge will be something I will remember for the rest of my life and I am so grateful for the opportunity.”
