Belated Happy Christmas everyone.
Anyhow, I didn't think I'd have to buy friends and family Christmas presents this year. My plan of Rowing the Atlantic and setting off on the 6th December I had hoped would spare me from buying presents this year as
I wouldn't have been organised enough to arrange them by mid November when we had originally left the UK. Well, that plan failed and a few hundred quid later I'd bought my presents for everyone!
My immediate family - Mum, Dad, Ellie, Ian, Grandad & Maxine had all booked to go and spend Christmas with Adam & Amanda in Dubai so I was family-less! Thankfully, Laura was in the country and had planned to spend
Christmas with her parents in Devon and I've just spent a lovely but unexpected Christmas down here with Lynda & Charles. For the last couple of years I'd visualised being 3 weeks into the crossing on Christmas day and opening my presents and cards from friends and
family and making a few phones back to the UK from Red Arrow. It would have been the most unusual Christmas ever and one that I would never have forgotten! However, I soon forgot all about this when I was stuffing my face with Turkey and all the trimmings!
I've managed to keep the training up the last couple of days with a Christmas morning 10k coastal run and a 5 miler this morning. Running on Christmas morning was picturesque with snow/frost on the ground, the sun
was shining, a very calm sea in the bay and Chariots of Fire on the iPod - awesome!
I'm off to Bristol airport in the morning for a midday flight to Tenerife. Laura is dropping me up there and this will be the last time I will see Laura until Antigua which is going to be hard for both of us. Please
can you all make sure she is okay whilst I'm away. Rich is currently in London so is flying down from Gatwick tomorrow night and we'll meet in La Gomera. To keep our costs down we're sleeping on Red Arrow for the next couple of nights which will be cosy!
The race is on schedule to start on Tuesday 29th and hopefully my next blog will be from Red Arrow and we'll finally be on our way to Antigua!
Seasons Greetings,
Barnesy
p.s. Chris Trelfa - quite simply, you are a LEGEND!
Thanks for all the e-baying you've done for us and most importantly the films, live stand up and the Inbetweeners TV show you've copied onto our laptop. When Rich and I are in a storm and stuck in the cabin we won't
want to start rowing again!
