Early FRiday 14 September

Pavan

We arrived in Baiona on Monday afternoon, and went straight to the fuel berth. The season is clearly coming to a close, so PAVAN was allowed to stay there overnight. Most helpful, as the berrth is only fifty yards from the Yacht Club.

After a good nights sleep, and a morning shopping, we departed north for Finisterre mid-aftewrnoon. From then on, things went downhill for the next 36 hours.

By Finisterre, we had NE 7, gusting gale force, with a big confused sea. Impossible to eat, or even sleep, and unsafe to boil a kettle  for tea. So it continued through Wednesday night, but was moderating fast by dawn on Thursday.

In fact, Thursday turned into a really good sail. All sails set, spanking aong in a NE 15/20 knots. Unfortunately this was 50 degrees off course, but was the best heading we could make.with the wind in that direction,

Thursday  also gave us the chance of a good meal, a few cups of tea, and best of all, a shower ! I should add that showering at an angle in a moderate sea is  a bit like being in a washing machine, but st least one feels clean after the battle.

Thursady was also a day to catch up on sleep. The previous couple of days had left us both pretty exhausted, with our bruised and battered bodies relucxtant to do even the most simple of tasks...............like standing up.

It is now four o'clock on Friday morning. The sea is quite gentle, so we are motoring throufgh the night to gain some eastings. It also charges the batteries whilst  providing nav. lights and radar for the night passage.

We are still 250 miles SW of the Lizard, and a bit too early to give any useful ETA for Falmouth. It all depends on the weather.
