Our day’s run from 10:30 Thursday to 10:30 Friday (today) saw us complete 130 miles. Winds were light in the middle of the day and we had to motor-sail for 5 hours to maintain a daily average of at least 120 miles.

Based on our own reckoning and using the GPS/Chart plotter, we estimate that we have 1728 miles to go to reach St Lucia. So with 14 days to run (until Saturday 18/12), this equates to a daily average run of approximately 123 miles. The bulk of the crew’s flights are booked for Saturday 18/12, so the pressure is on!

We have limited fuel so we will have to manage this closely and on a daily basis.

The wind picked up well later in the day and close to dusk. We were reaching boat speeds of up 8 knots throughout the night. We saw a few large vessels which we assumed were trawlers out of the Cape Verdes.

Temperatures today so far at 14:00 UTC are 32 degrees centigrade and the relative humidity is sitting at 64%. Hot and very sticky!

Plenty of flying fish to be seen. Whilst on watch with Ivan during the midnight – 04:00 watch, he managed to get hit in the back of the head with a flying fish! No harm done though – the fish was fine!!!

Nothing further to report today. We will be listening in on the the ARC radio channel later for general updates from fleet control.

Kind regards,

Skipper Ivan and crew.
