Licata 8th July - ?

By Thursday of that week we decided that if we didn’t leave we never would, so Adam girded his loins (literally and metaphorically!) and we cast off for a short day sail or motor, as it turned out, to Licata, just down the coast. Here we are in another small industrial port at a local marina which is cheap and friendly but does lack a little in facilities – there are no toilets or showers. Showers are not a problem as the water at the dockside is nice and warm by midday and you can just soap up and hose yourself down, whenever it gets a bit sweaty. The heat here is fairly intense and if you don’t get out and about to do anything before about 10am you can forget it until about 4 -5 in the afternoon.

Toileting on the other hand has become something of an issue – as coinciding with our arrival at a place with no loos our aged heads packed in and failed to pump out, following an early morning visit by Adam. No prizes for guessing who ended up cleaning up the mess... Mrs Mop here spent the whole of yesterday dismantling and clearing out the old head, ready for the new one we ordered from the luckily very well stocked and helpful chandlers, just down the road. As we await the new one, we are reduced to the ancient sailing art of bucket and chuck it! Or as this does not impress the neighbours or the children – hunt the nearest cafe with a decent wc .

On the plus side the marina has special floating barbeque areas and fresh fish if freely available from the adjacent fishing boats and last night we enjoyed a very tasty grill up, followed by a trip to the local fairground a trip on the dodgems. Highlight of Hannah and Gabes day.
