As you heard from Adam Fes was a bit of a culture shock – thinking that we were acclimatised to Morocco being already savvy about prices and things in Rabat – we were totally unprepared for the crush that is Fes. It is vast and there are people all over the place waiting to pounce on you and divest you of some money. Our first mistake was to believe the google map position of the Riad, which lead us on a long hot walk from the station to a graveyard on the edge of the city. The second mistake was to believe that Ottoman our self appointed guide was just wanting to be friendly and show us the quickest way to our hotel. A long confusing tour of the medina later we arrived at the riad. The Riad was beautiful but hard to find (unless you knew it was just off the main tourist street near to the main entrance to the Medina – easy to find the next day) and a calm quiet oasis away from the bustling streets just outside the front door. That night we ate out, at a very interesting but very tourist oriented cafe called the Kasbah, on a roof terrace overlooking the main entrance square to the souk. We were the only non Americans there. Still the view was good and the food not bad.
