Villa villa moura

Well a week of anchoring in faro seemed quite sedate after our first night excitement. This was our first long term anchoring, and really something that we need to continue with, as one of its biggest benefits is that it is free. On top of this life is different at anchor than in a marina. The boat is generally more comfortable you are not banging against a pontoon, and there is not noise from other boats nearby. However you are not connected to mains electric so tv is switched off. I think these 6 days are the longest we have all been away from the tv. We played lots of uno/monopoly and card games. I know this is meant to bring families together, however we are much more animated while watching tv, someone is always giving a running commentary or asking questions, anyhow you are an island while anchored quite disconnected from all others. We used the dingy to get into faro, which is a typical Portuguese small city. Reg and Nora (dawns parents) visited us (and fed us).

Also no hot water, so basically we did not wash, which is ok when you are all doing it. On the last day we all traipsed into the coopers hotel room and washed….glorious.

Tan joined us on the last day with a friend from university. It was great seeing her and she is going to cruise with us for the next few weeks. We sailed back to villamoura to prepare for our next cruise……….stay tuned.

Photo Update

For those of you wondering what has happened to the photo accompaniment to Adams daily rants, I have to report the sad demise of my trusty canon camcorder, after about six years of intense misuse. Mid way through our stay in Cascais it began to give up the ghost and wouldn’t allow me to down load photos or insert new discs, but I could still take photos just. Also my phone packed up too leaving me bereft of communications with the outside world. Anyhow I have now got a new phone with superduper camera all in one, courtesy of mum and dads visit and vodaphone. The big delay has been in trying to figure out how to download from the phone – its never as simple as they claim! The resulting backlog of photos will be downloaded over the next few blogs. Starting with :

Cascais Christmas – Cascais was a lovely place to spend Christmas and new year, very pretty and Christmassy. It has a great market and we got a fantastic fresh turkey, which we shared with Marina and James two Kiwis, sailing their brand new Lagoon catamaran, from France back to New Zealand. It is like a palace compared to our boat and it was ideal for the large dinner on Christmas day. We were all stuffed. We all had fun opening presents and we even managed a small Christmas tree on the boat (twigg actually) Boxing day was really sunny and we went for a walk along the cliffs to see the huge waves breaking and take in cultural delights of Cascais.
