Sines…Sunday

I asked the lady in the museum (Vasco de Gamas hometown museum) if Vasco was a common Portuguese first name. She said it was in Portugal. That sums up why I do like the Portuguese. They speak English with no irony or sarcasm. The museum showed the influence Portugal has had on the rest of the world. They were the first Europeans to discover Japan. The Japanese word arrigato is a derivative of the Portuguese word abrigado. Tempura is also a Portuguese dish.

So Dawn was looking at the architecture and the artsy stuff and I was picking up the “did you know “ stuff. What the kids were picking up I did not know. However one of them….no names remarked that there was a café across the street that was open).

Anyhow 10 minutes later and ensconced in the most delightful patisserie café munching into pastel de Belem cakes which are like custard pies with a spicy taste they are divine. Arsenal was playing west ham utd on the telly and we were in pastry heaven….the joys of travel.

Its Sunday so not much was open but it seems like the old town is quaint but not touristy lots of cobbled narrow streets with great views of the bay.

Dawns cooking, Hannah is singing along to “police and thieves” Gabriel and I are looking busy and I am thinking how come I am here which turn in my life led here. Anyhow its 2010 I miss Tan. I cannot imagine returning to “things”. Too much thinking. Love Y’all
