We start the day with mince and tatties refuelling
for a day of repairs. Its still blowing 25 knots with a big rolling sea, we still
have 2 reefs in the main sail & 1/3 headsail and still manage to top 18
knots surfing down a wave. Further damage we forgot to mention in yesterdays
blog was:
-B&G instruments had their face covers ripped
off
-The cover over the cockpit electrics has
gone!
1st repair is the Vang which is successful- the
temporary repair of yesterday had caused more damage, it bent the strut so Ian
and Ronnie carry out a permanent repair by drilling a hole in the tang and fit a
big shackle. However although the wind has dropped to about 20knots we are still
doing about 7-8 knots. We gibe a couple of times to get more west and decide to
put on a point tack so can we use the autohelm at night.
Mid afternoon, the fishing line runs- smoking
reels- it's Frank's 20 Euro lure but it didn't last long, we didn't land it and
the Lure was ripped clean off!
Chicken Caesar salad for dinner then we settle down
for the night watches, everyone looking forward to a more restful night. The
boys finally found the chocolate and so supplies are now seriously depleted. A
beautiful clear moonlight night and the crew enjoy their first drink of the
voyage.
The wind swings a bit through the night, around
10degrees with some dark clouds, a few squalls and a smidgen of rain. Ronnie and
Nathan had to alter course at short notice when a boat decides to gibe in our
direction in the middle of the night with Ian jumping out of bed wondering whats
happening now. All in all a good peaceful night and awaken to a nice sunrise,
