Here in San Miguel Marina, Tenerife, making last minute preparations for our Atlantic crossing.  Some planned, some unplanned.
In the last few days we've installed a fan for the galley, made and fitted lee cloth, reorganised yet again provisions stowage, lashed planks to the guard rail for tying our tanks to, installed Satelite phone system, and finally learned how to use this diary/blog, all planned.
Unplanned was pleasure of hosing out bilges and heads after unexpectedly blowing off the main outlet pipe.  I had warned Tony not to have that hot curry but he took no notice.  Still, try to look on the bright side Jane, it could have happened mid Atlantic. The pipe had reduced in diameter from about 35mm to 10mm so unplanned new job to do of fixing new pipe and 'Y' valve, such a glamorous life, and as Tony said, "installed the fan and the pipe blew in the same day, but at least the sh*t didn't hit the fan"
We've finally found out why the batteries were taking so long to charge up when we use the engine.  The regulator had been wired up only to the isolated battery that we use for starting the engine, and not the set of batteries for domestic use, such as keeping the fridge going so I can have a cold G&T.  Simple once you know but we've been puzzling this one ever since we had it fitted in La Rochelle.
We are obsessed with power.
Most of the lights are now LED and we have a very lovely brothel red light over the chart table.  Switch it on and it's white, switch it off then on again and it's brothel red.  I've no idea how it works but it's brilliant.  in case you land lubbers don't know, red lights at night are better as ordinary lights ruin your night vision so you can't see if that cargo vessel yhou spotted five minutes ago, begfore you went for a wee is about to run you down.
Tony is now taking the ceilings down to run wires through for our new solar panels.  Only taken two days to get this far and nearly have wires in place.
