Massawa: We stayed here a couple of days to visit Eritrea’s capital Asmara, 100kms inland and 2,500m above sea level. A fascinating place, most of which was built by the Italians in the ‘20s and ‘30s. Such is the red tape here that we were almost unable to leave (it took a full day to get 200 litres of diesel) but we are now anchored in Port Smyth in Shumma Island. A suitably perfect anchorage!
