Anything coming the other way was stopped and told to pull onto the verge.  Three trailer lorries in South Australia.

Caravans….

Eventually they crossed to the RHS of the road, still driving and we were told to underpass them.  Police car went first and then we waved through by the escort car on the LHS of the picture.

It rained all day so everywhere was awash in mud, you can just make out containers on a very long train going pass at our lunch spot.

We crossed the border into Northern Territory and stayed at the first roadhouse we came across along the highway.  Dump, dump, dump.  The worst yet.  Paul doing wheel spins trying to reverse the caravan.  They had a happy hour in the bar, well you couldn’t get very happy on the prices they charged.  And the lady behind the bar was originally from Portsmouth, her father was a digger for the railway so she travelled all over Australia, and picked a bad spot to end up.  Fuel prices have increased dramatically.  We were paying $1.20 in Adelaide, $1.45 in Barossa, $1.75 on Coober Pedy and now $2.00.
