37 05.86N 8 39.68W The last leg…..to Lagos. Paul and Marian swap with Nigel and Fiona. There should have been a stop in Sines but the marina was closed. Every boat in the fleet was left to make up their own mind on how they wanted to get to Lagos - some decided to anchor in Sines others to go straight to Lagos a distance of 120 nm. With our ongoing battery issues anchoring was not an issue so we decided to leave at 0.55am with Fisk to follow each other for safety with the Orca interactions going south towards Lagos. The winds were light so we motor sailed until around 9.30am when we went under full sail. Just as we were approaching Cape St Vincent we hard over the radio a boat had been attacked and disabled just leaving Sines. Also over the radio and ARC boat 20nm behind us was also attacked and sustained damage. We were very lucky as the Orcas were plainly in the area we had just sailed though. Dodging many tuna nets and staying as shallow as we could we arrived in Lagos at 18.30. A few days to unwind and go to the ARC Portugal dinner. The whole experience of sailing with ARC Portugal was excellent and Northern Light II covered 1,100 nm from Cowes. NL II was lifted for 2 months of rest in Sopramar with some repairs to be done - mail the batteries and Parasailor - before the next adventure in September the Lads and Dads trip to Las Palmas with myself , Alexander, Nick & Tom King.
