After a very bumpy night at anchor, doing anchor watches of 2 hours each, we left for Portimao. One night in their expensive marina to service the engine, then the next day we moved to anchor opposite for a couple of nights in the beautiful sandy bay- a very popular anchorage with boats from all nationalities. The beach is lovely, backed by sandstone cliffs which have been carved into caves and rock stacks by the waves.
We had a couple of good walks to the old village of Ferrugado, with steep cobbled streets, and another along the cliff top to an old medieval lookout tower.
