We
left Santa Cruz
at 11am on a very overcast and damp morning. Very little wind to start
with but that soon changed. The wind reached about 30 knots but was on the beam with a lively
quartering sea. I think we are starting to see
the infamous acceleration zones that we’ve heard and read so much
about. As soon as we
turned the corner however, the wind dropped away and we motored into Puerto
Rico Marina with just a light breeze. Hmm, so that’s what
acceleration zones are all about. We finally arrived in Puerto Rico , Gran Canaria at 19.30.
We spent Saturday in Puerto Rico which is a resort full of apartment buildings
and rather too many “English” bars and restaurants. Met up with Tom
and Jerry Mulligan from “Molly O” - another Sussex Yacht Club boat.
They are wintering here. We invited them over for G & Ts and
nibbles. Our plan was to be up at 4 am to leave at 5am to make the hop to
Fuerteventura, the next island “en route”. So we made it an
early night.
