Hey,
Here we are, Delicia and the crew. Henrik the boats' owner, James and Erica
the boats' ordinary crew, Goran and Eric, guest sailors and Theo our yachtie
who we found on the docks in Las Palmas. We are sailing the ARC in class
cruising A to St Lucia in the Caribbean. You can follow our progress on the
ARC website.
The skies were gray yesterday at the time of our start. Lots of people were
on the quay to see the start and cheered when the boats passed. Nice!
The wind was quite strong around, 30 knots, at the start. We got away as
one of the first boats over the line. We had a fast reach down the east side
of Gran Canaria. The wind gusted 35-38 knots at times and we had to hand
steer in the heavy sea. Eric held the speed record with 17,4 knots for a
long time until Henrik got on top of a super wave and topped at 17,9 knots.
Down at the bottom of the island we gybed and poled out the genua and could
steer towards south west with the help of our autopilot.
Erica served a tasty pasta dish and we got into our night watches. The night
passed without incidents. We made good progress and logged exactly 200 NM on
the first 24 H. We got a position report earlier and understand that we are
quite well positioned in our class. The weather has cleared up and we are
looking forward to a moonlit night on the Atlantic.
