Thank God its Friday!!
After another hard day at the office,
I came of watch at 07:00 (001-07:00) and after having a kip, I woke at
11:00 to the smell of frying Calamaris (octopus)! One of the guys, (Mats) cant
get enough of them, When we were in Spain he ate a whole plate of almost raw
octupus all by himself (sorry Mats could'nt resist it):-)
Yesterday we had good winds for most of the day but
with a bit of an uncomfortable rolling sea, we still managed to beat our best
distance though over 24 hours, more than 180 miles!
Today we rounded our waypoint and are for the first
time actually heading in the direction of the West Indies, after checking the
whereabouts of the other boats in our class we found that we are actually doing
quite well, which was good news, and because its Friday we had a beer to
celebrate!
Then we had another beer to celebrate because
I actually caught a fish!! It was a perfect size (much bigger than it looks in
the photo):-) and within the hour it was grilled and served up with boiled
potatos and a slice of lemon! All that was missing was a nice glass of chilled
white wine!
I'd read that the quickest way of putting the fish
out of its misery was by pouring spirit into its gills.. well the only
spirit I had to hands, was a single malt Cragganmore, and for those
of you that know me, you know I dont part with that easily! Anyhow I gave the
fish a drop (probably not enough) and I can tell you it dos'nt work, the fish
went mad and I had to revert to bashing it with our lightning conductor (a heavy
metal bar) which done the trick!
Funny enough though, while I had the whisky out,
Mats developed a sore throat, and Bosse that had stubbed his toe, insisted on
having a drop for medicinal purposes.. I actually had a sore throat as well! (I
could'nt just give it to the fish)!
Anyhow thats a short account of our
day.
Thomas and Bosse are on watch, Mats is asleep, (its
20:00 as I write) and I'm going to try and get some shuteye as Mats and
I start our watch at 01.00.. what are you doing tonight?
Love to all
Jeff Thomas Mats Bosse
