Hello from the warm Atlantic...
We're now into our fourth day at sea and we're
making our way slowly but surely towards the Cape Verde islands,
After a few days of ligtht winds, we've now got the
trade winds behind us and have the Gennaker poled out on one side and the
main sail on the other which is given us both good boat speed and a comfortable
ride!
Today I decided to set up the fishing gear as it
was my turn to do the cooking and I fancied a bit of fish, within about 20
minutes we had a bite and in seconds about 200 metres of line was ripped of the
reel! After putting the brake on the reel and slowing the fish down to tire it
out (that was the plan anyway), we dropped the Gennaker as we had a lot of boat
speed which was making it even harder work and I fought the fish for about 15
minutes, it kept running off with the line and we could see it splashing on the
surface a long way behind the boat. To stop it taking all the line off of the
reel I had to put the brake on almost maximum and after a minute or so the lure
tore off and the fish got away..(which was probably a good thing as it was
huge!) So we had to make do with Entrecote and chips..but nobody seemed to
mind!
We are now getting into our watch system, and at
night the sky is amazing..theres so many stars out, and we see at least 5-10
shooting stars every watch..the other night Mats counted between
25-30!
Yesterday we had a flock or herd, or whatever its
called of Dolphins around the boat, they stayed with us for about 20 minutes and
we got some really good video footage of them.
Every day after breakfast in the sun and a
shower on the back of the boat.. we get on with various jobs, and the time goes
by pretty quickly. We know its snowy and cold at
home, so are making the most of this lovely weather!
Its also amazing how over 220 boats all disappeared
in different directions so quickly, we see 1-2 boats a day if we're
lucky..maybe they know something we don't!
Anyway its time for me to get ready for my watch,
I'm adding two picture with this mail, and will send some others seperate
file..
Love to All
