AiS is not law for my size boat. I spent over £2000 getting engine sorted anticipating issues. However , within 200 .metres of going to a mooring ball , the engine broke and a piston with rods were destroyed. A new engine and gearbox from U.K. is costing circa £12000! A new alternator increases my charging rates on batteries. The new torque helps speed and economy. I added propspeed to my autoprop to to the same by stopping fouling. I changed some rigging after a survey as this normally kills boats.
Lance from Raymarine got my charts working on the axiom+ 12. I am now using predictwind via satellite phone for weather. There will be a communication system which I will advise later. I have a communication backup with a garmin in reach. Slowly coming together. High powered water pump is now installed. A manual one needs repair.
I will use a meteorologist called Chris Parker to give me weather advice and hopefully avoiding gales if I can. Survival kit is heaving to and a fiorini drogue. Of course I have a liferaft and emergency beacons. Mast climbing solo is mountaineering gear which I need to practice. I will depend on my self steering Hydrovane but have a new autohelm.
Food will be got later. I am nervous being solo but there is still a possibility of help…. will see.I have a storm sail but no trysail so reefing is the way to go in bad weather. Light airs is a cruising chute. I am trying to improve my twin head sails.
Anyway , loads happening and a large expenditure but it must be done. I would like to have looked at better musto clothing but must make do.
