NEWS LETTER FROM SIMON AND GOSIA SMITH

OCTOBER 2009

simon@ SAFESAILING.CO.UK

Hi Friends

The last 12 months has been a very busy time for both of us and also for Black Arrow. I’ve had a very interesting time, working with the OYT Scotland, skippering there two Challenge 72’s running youth development courses and have spent spring months running similar courses for the Tall Ships Trust on their 72.

During May, Black Arrow had a major refit, now she has a complete new sail wardrobe, new standing rigging , we have managed to repaint most of the inside of the hull with lots of epoxy.

In June I sailed  to the Arctic Circle skippering  Polar Bear, another Challenge 72, Dee Cafree’s round the world yacht.

We carried  out two expeditions to the remote Island of Jan Mayen, 600 miles from Norway. These seven weeks onboard were extremely rewarding and enjoyable with lots of crew and staff changes. The midnight sun in Bodo, Norway was amazing, 0300 in the morning and the sun is shinning bright.

Gosia has been very busy working as an audiologist in Winchester and Plymouth  during all this time.

We also got married in April, which was a great event in Poland, with  friends and family coming over for the wedding.

We are currently in Rabat, Morocco, with the crew: Si and Rich. Iain will be back in a few weeks, we are on route to the Cannaries. After restocking in the Cannaries, We will leave around the middle of November bound for Antigua.

We currently have spaces (1 or 2) on the remaining legs of the around the world trip:

-Antigua to Australia January-July 2010 ( possibility to join just for a part of this leg, please call for details). There will be many stops on the way (Galapagos, pacific islands etc).

-Australia to South Africa (Cape Town) November 2010-January 2011,

Price: £50 per day, includes all food onboard and all expenses mooring, diesel, etc.

You can email us simon {CHANGE TO AT} safesailing {DOT} co {DOT} uk or call Simon on 07710 127771 for more details.

We hope your all well

Regards
