Thursday 7 April

We woke to a bright blue sunny morning and the forecast of light winds.  After preparing the boat we slipped our mooring at 12.40 p.m. and left Ramsgate harbour heading for Dover.  As the winds were light much of the day was spent motoring.  However, around 3 o’clock in the afternoon we found enough wind to practice our first MOB drills.  Very soon afterwards the white cliffs of Dover came into view on our starboard side as we made our way towards Dover harbour.  Numerous large vessels , some carrying dangerous cargoes according to Dover Port Control, plus passenger ferries coming and going meant that a keen look out was essential while we all listened to the VHF.

Upon contacting Dover Port Control we were given permission to enter through the eastern entrance of the harbour and we were allocated a berth alongside by 18.20.

Planning for an early start in the morning, we dined on sausages and mash and onion gravy and were all in our bunks by 9pm.
