The Mexico Adventures of Marc and Laura

Nuevo Vallarta

Our mischief began on the docks of Nuevo Vasllarta, just north of Puerto
Vallarta Proper. Marc arrived a week before I did to make sure Symphony was
still afloat and ready for a southbound journey. Unwilling to dive under the
boat and scrape off 6 months of growth, Marc made the wise choice to hire
Guiermo the diver to take care of business.

Here’s an abbreviated list of Marc’s work week:
• Cleaned everything (cockpit, engine area, front deck, etc.)
• Change out water in water tanks
• Inflate and repair “Propeller Head” the dingy
• Go in search of fuel, oil and Propane
• Re-rivit mast steps to spreaders
• Re-caulk portholes
• Install mainsail and stack pack
• Put up solar panels
• Put up electronics
• Put up spinnaker halyard
• Install Genoa
• Clean fuel filters

A week later, like a Rock Star, I arrived to Symphony with nothing left to do
but shop for groceries and set sail.

UnderWay

Thus far we have had 3 full days sailing. Our first was certainly our roughest.
We had 8-10 foot swells and 15-20 knots of wind. The other two days were a bit
of motor sailing with minimal swell.

Our rich sea life sightings:
• Humpback Whales
o One breeched 4 times in succession
o Another had an itch… slapping it’s tail over and over
o A moma and her calf
• Dolphins
o Swimming off the bow (numerous times)
o Up to 10 at one time
• Sting Rays
o At least a dozen jumping out of the water repeatedly
• Sea Turtles
o They are everywhere (at least 5 each day)
• Fishing success or not
o 3’ Yellow Tail Jack
o 2 Mahi Mahi that got away
