Ahoy landlubbers!

Today has been a day of endless sunshine and calm seas which has meant we have been motoring all day. On the one hand, this has made for a  nice relaxing day, being able to read books and think great thoughts, but on the other hand, we are hardy, atlantic sailors who thrive on the challenge of strong winds and high seas. Oh well! maybe tomorrow

.

We have made steady progress and are now two-thirds of the way to our destination of Las Palmas. We haven’t seen land for 3 days which is a 'first' for some of us. The first day you lose sight it is a bit unsettling, it feels like you are loosing a security blanket but by the third day it feels somewhat liberating. We haven’t seen another vessel all day, the atlantic has been our sole companion…I hope we are going the right way!

The one man, night watches are a little surreal. If the moon is covered it becomes very dark and all you can see are the  shapes of giant swells coming towards you and then they disappear. The boat gently rises to the crest of the wave and settles back down. In the meantime there are blips of huge tankers on the AIS system which show that they are travelling fast and will hit you in 30mins! But we ‘use the force’ and or instruments and the next thing you know the moon is out and the danger has passed and we are on our own again.

The debate of the full moon continues, it appears the Australian definition is slightly different to that in Canada and England. In Oz they think the little bit in the left hand corner still needs filling in! Only time will tell.

It was Captain’s dinner tonight so we were treated to sirloin steaks, roast vegetables with couscous followed by peaches and sponge. Its a tough life.

The latest weather report shows more of the same tomorrow, which is a shame as we would really like to test out Kevin’s new sail, a spinnaker which is great in lightish winds.

Another beautiful sunset which brings the total number of photos to A LOT

Until next time
