Surfing at 20 miles per
hour – Day 61
How amazing is it
to be in a British Rail carriage with people all around and getting a call from
the Indian Ocean. I am not sure what people made of it as I listened to an
excited description of surfing 40 foot waves. “ You're what? Surfing 40 foot
waves? Right now? And you've got time to phone me? It's what? A massive
adrenalin rush! I bet. How fast? You clocked 17.9 knots – more than 20 miles per
hour!” I noticed a few looks as if to say what is this man on – people don't
surf 40 foot waves whilst talking on the phone!
There is no doubt
that the experience of difficulties of the past weeks has been transformed into
an experience of exhilaration. These boys are experiencing real highs and joys
on this crossing. They are getting on well and simply taking things as they come
and, even if they run out of food, I think they will keep going on their
optimism.
