ENTRY INTO SUDANESE WATERS
We ended the weekend with a really fast sail from Marsa Halaib in Egypt to Elba Reef (just) in Sudan, seeing over 7 knots for much of the way.  With winds over 20 knots and a rolling sea, Jill and Robert suffered an inintentional gybe which ripped out the end stop on their mainsheet track.  We also had an unexpected gybe, which broke our gybe preventer line and bent a stanchion.  We never did find the snap-shackle that connected the preventer line to the boom!  Robert found the end stop and soon repaired his mainsheet trrack.  When we get to Thailand, we will have the stanchion welded, change the preventer lines to a thicker size and upgrade the snap shackles by one size too.
Our fishing brought late success as we caught a nice barracuda only minutes before we put the sails down to enter the reef.  We were also entertained by about eight large dolphins on our way in and, on arrival, spotted a turtle swimming about in the lagoon.  After we had settled in, we had a lovely supper of grilled barracuda and salads with Jill and Robert.  Its a hard life.
The next morning we awoke early, fixed a problem with the Iridium phone data modem and changed our courtesy flag to Sudanese (not that there is anyone here to see it).
