Visited by three armed customs agents and taken to the Patrouilleur des Douanes Kermorvan in the military base on a rib and fined 150 euros for failure to meet articles 5 and 6 of the convention de geneve de 1958 et l’article de 410 du code des douanes… Basically I couldn’t find my SSR registration document. They were a bit over the top but just doing their job. When I met the Captain on the bridge of the Kermovan he was flabbergasted when I told him that I had sailed to France two years in a row and never had to fill out any paperwork. 'Jamais' I replied to my French friend. This undermines all his brilliant work patrolling Brest with his ship when the rest of his country is open to all and sundry. Quite funny really. PS: They were very cordial but I was glad I spoke French…. Out |
