Our position at 1600hrs local time put us less than 1000nm from Cairns. Given our low fuel consumption motor sailing, we could now get there under power with some wind assistance if we had to.
The conditions have moderated a little since last night and although we still have 17-20kts of wind, the sea feels a lot kinder, we have shaken out the 3rd reef and let out the headsail to about a #4. We are constantly above 8kts over the ground and surge down some of the waves reaching 10-11kts. The GPS has us arriving in Cairns on Monday afternoon, but I doubt this will last and Tuesday AM is a realistic goal.
No fishing today - we will struggle to eat all the fish and meat we have by the time we arrive.
