GRUESOME EXHIBITS
We spent an hour or so in the Museo Regional this morning. It was fascinating but some exhibits were fairly disturbing. There was a fairly gruesome display of mummies, trepanned skulls, grave artefacts and trophy heads. It would appear that the taking of trophy heads in the region was related to specific beliefs. These skulls were presumably hunted and collected in battle. The exhibits dated around 2000BC The remarkable state of preservation is due the extremely dry environment.
Perfect example of trepanation Trophy head The most striking of the museum’s collection is its display of Paracas Textiles. Enigmatic in their apparent coding of colours and patterns these clothes were mostly used for funeral. What is so incredible is the fact they have retained their colours after 2000 years.
This is decorated with parakeet’s feathers Chris had wanted to try this type of taxi since we arrived in ICA. They are imported from India.
