What a cracking days sailing!
The last log was written between 2.30 and 4 a.m., and since then we have got into our stride.
I went to bed at 4 a.m., and from then until 8, Dave and Alun spent the rising dawn fending off squalls. Then the lines we left out last night were both hit at once. Two beautiful Kingfish. From a warm bed to filleting fish in 5 minutes is a strange way to greet the day.
The day has been cloudy with squalls, but a good following wind. Apart from minor adjustments, we haven't touched the sails or steering all day, and the boat has just been driving on.
The sea is three miles deep here, but at ten this morning we went right over the top of Mount Hierro, a submerged mountain two and a half miles high. Although the peak is half a mile under the surface, it still creates confused seas, and for a couple of hours the sea was rough. We will go over Mount Seymour shortly, even higher to within 150 meters of the surface, and we are expecting the same again.
A yacht was radioing for help earlier this morning. We could not understand what was wrong, but a boat that could speak his language went to help. It was later resolved, and everyone o.k.
There have been a surprising number of yachts with spinnaker problems, but I expect that is to do with the gusty conditions.
We had a dinner fit for royalty today. Fillets of kingfish, floured, seared in olive oil, finished in the oven, and served with slices of lemon, creamed potatos, and peas. Wonderful, although Alun insisted that fish fingers from his mum were just as good. I just hope his mum reads that.

All the best Rod Dave and Alun SY Moonshine
