At about
90 miles away from Mazatlan this meant another
overnight session on the boat. We
did some quick provisioning and motored out in the early afternoon. The wind stayed light to non existent
and so we motored pretty much the whole way. Overnight we had one of those really
special experiences that you put on the “coolest things you have ever seen”
list. The night was very dark and
the phosphorescence was really active in the water. When this happens, whenever the water is
disturbed it gives off a dull green light like a weak glow stick. This alone is pretty cool but when
dolphins come and play off the bow wave of your boat in these conditions it is
really awe inspiring. We were
fortunate enough to have a short visit like this and appreciate Mother Nature’s
amazing show.
Apart from the dolphin visit it was a quiet
and windless journey out to Isabella.
Once we got there we plopped the anchor into the nice clear water and
immediately went for a swim/snorkel.
The water has really warmed up from the stuff in Baja and it’s getting
quite pleasant to be in there (even without a wetsuit).

After the swim we went for a little tour of the
Island. Isla
Isabella has been a bird sanctuary for the last 20 years and so it is literally
covered in birds and bird nests. A
quick hike there had birds in just about every tree, bush and shrub. I can’t believe we made it around the
island without getting shit on….
Also, it was my first look up close at Blue Footed Boobies which really
do have blue feet! They look just
like duck feet dipped in light blue paint.
Hmm there was a half painted building near the fishing outpost maybe they
did walk around in wet paint……

Also like
most islands in
Mexico there was
a small fishing village here.
Village is actually a very generous term because it is really just a
collection of shacks. A few
outhouses in the back and that’s it.
No power. Water must come
from a small well somewhere. It’s a
very simple life for them.
After our hike we realized that we had done everything to do on the
island already. We decided to do an
overnight trip to our next destination,
Mantachen
Bay
