Last day in Cadiz; treating ourselves to a special lunch

Our last day in Cadiz, so we decided to treat ourselves to lunch out. As ever we have to "earn" our lunch. This morning the fuel tanks were topped up from two jerry cans and those replenished at the fuel berth. A small load of laundry was done on board and a ninja meal prepared for our overnight passage tomorrow. Sally and I were tasked with removing a blue "tell-tale" which had detached itself from the main sail and attached to the topping lift (a line from the top off the mast to the end of the main sail boom). An extension line was secured to the topping lift so we could use the boat hook to grab the rope and eventually the offending blue tag was removed. Simon is now happy!

After showers, we all headed into town. A visit to the delicatessen first for a few goodies to take home. I decided one vs three pairs of shoes was not fair so I bought myself a colourful pair too. Nigel splashed out €6.99 on a USB adapter. We know how to spoil our men!

As we wandered through the narrow streets we spotted a street seller with tiny crystal shrimps, no more than a centimetre long, too tempting not to try at one euro for a cone. A tasty snack before lunch.

The restaurant we had identified, recommended by Jose Luis from Ashampstead, didn't open until 13.30 so we had pre lunch drinks in an adjacent bar. Delicious glasses of chilled sherry and a sharing plate of deep fried squid. Lunch at Taberna Almarcen was amazing; local cheese with honey, delicious olives, Iberian meat with 'special' seasoning, patas bravas, assorted croquettes and more squid. Desserts of cheesecake, chocolate fondant with ice cream and white chocolate and raspberry brioche rounded off our meal splendidly.

We are now back on the boat, Simon and Nigel having a siesta and the girls enjoying the late afternoon sun.

A very enjoyable visit to Cadiz. We leave tomorrow for the overnight passage to Lagos in Portugal where we hope to spend a few days exploring.
