Callidus Harwich and Beyond

Hi All,
Tuesday I start for Falmouth from Harwich in yacht Callidus. (Actually Richard says we are just heading for Ramsgate to see what happens first - good philosophy!)

You can track our progress (hopefully) on http://blog.mailasail.com/callidus
The blog also has an RSS feed which is painless way of getting our updates if you have broadband...
Our email address is callidus {CHANGE TO AT} mailasail {DOT} com - a cheap way for you to get in touch whilst we are at sea, but not too cheap for us via the sat phone!

I will put photos of the trip on my MySpace site  when I can get a less expensive connection ashore (the sat phone is about £1 per minute) - see http://www.myspace.com/dickhoughton

look at yacht photos and Richard's website for info (not the trip) at http://www.ryacourses.net/about.html

We plan to update each day via the satellite phone or by local wi-fi if the marina has one. Richard will take the sat phone from Falmouth when I come home from there on around June 21st. He hopes to update on the way from Falmouth to Tenerife where I expect to join him in October, all being well. If we have to bale out in Dunkerque or Dover... well that's the way the cookey crumbles with yachts - after all we don't want the Skipper getting his feet wet!

The sat phone will be switched on for a short time each day to receive calls from you (don't unless you want to take out a mortgage!) or SMS (do - it is fairly cheap but check it out). I will put the schedule on the blog and I will send the contact phone number later.

Happy blog viewing! If you have any suggestions (apart from unquotable ones!) about all this then please tell me!
And do forward this message to anyone you think would be interested in our trip.

Our satellite phone number is +881631646198
My mobile number is +44931714990
Carol's home number is +441502518874 (01502 518874)

My proposed satellite phone listening watch schedule is 2000 to 2300 British local time (currently BST but will be GMT in November-ish). We might revise this depending how much juice it uses. This is convenient for all I think as it stays fixed for you at home but gets earlier in the local day as (if) we go across to the Caribbean.
