From Corsica we headed back to Italy and sailed across to the island of
Elba. Below we are entering the bay of Marina di Campo
where we spent a couple of pleasant days.
![]() The locals provide mooring buoys at a charge for those who prefer not to
anchor. There was an amusing
altercation between the Italian mooring man and a French boat that was
anchored too close to the mooring
he wanted to put a boat on......
![]() .....so in the end he picked up their anchor rope and towed them some
distance away!
![]() Marina di Campo was a very nice little town...
![]() with shops full of goodies...
![]() and clean shady streets.
![]() ![]() ![]() We took the bus across the island to the main town, Porto Ferrario.
![]() The towns most famous historical resident lived here...Napoleon was in
exile here from 1814 to 1815, when
he escaped and went on to meet his Waterloo. This is his house.
![]() and here is the delightful town below.....
![]() ![]() This large sailing boat is a cruise boat from France.
![]() Elba used to have a number of iron ore mines, now shut. No threat to
BHP anyway by the look of them.
![]() Fort at the entrance to Porto Azzuro. A town we anchored off on the East
coast.
![]() Quaint streets in Porto Azzuro
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We then anchored in a bay on the north side of Elba before leaving to sail
70 miles north to the Italian
Riviera.
![]() ![]() And enjoyed yet other beautiful sunset.................
