Madeira - Marina Quinta do Lorde, modern, very
helpful staff and despite being a building site is no dustier than other places
we have been to. A day in Funchal visiting fruit, fish and flower markets,
gardens and taking the gondola to the top of Monte and walking back down,
convinced us all that we are not townies and definately prefer the less
touristy, quieter end of the island. The local bus is a good, very cheap
way to see a large part of the island and we used it again to visit a local
festival of food in Machico - good fun.
After yet another stock up at the local supermarket
(free courtesy bus in marina) our teenagers having grazed their way through most
of our supplies, we are heading for the uninhabited islands just off Madeira
Ilhas Desertas.
