Monday 4th June.
Another long day and evening’s sailing brought us into Palermo Harbour
at the other end of Sicily
at about 12.30 pm ..
At least this massive commercial harbour has good flood lighting
.. Still not much use when the Harbour is full !! We
elected to moor in the fuelling space and deal with the harbour wrath in the
morning .. There was no real problem except that the refuelling operative
started at 7.30 .. So we did too !! Pricey fuel at 1.24 per
litre , but no charge for our overnight.!!
We found a Supermarket that was open on Sunday, but struggled to pay ,
as all my credit cards have bent and warped under the strain.. (new ones coming
to Majorca .!!) …luckily Sue’s
We had a couple of hours sleep then took off for another arduous trip
.. To Sardinia .. (2 nights en route)
We had a moderate night ., and a really lovely day ..
SAILING .. We shook out the birds nest from the mizzen sail and
with a force 6 we had 7.5 knots in quiet solitude .. (no engine …
lovely ! )
Smitten with our progress , we had a board meeting and decided to pass
Sardinia and head straight on for Majorca
.. 2 more overnights but then the presentation of our
“tickets” and a few days rest with Martin and Gill .. (my
Present thinking is that we may take a few days break then in UK
.. We will see ..
The Dolphins got up early yesterday to wish me good night and Sue hello,
but they were shy and didn’t wait while we
got our cameras….!!
9.00am and we are almost at Andraitx, Majorca……apologies
for the lack of blog but Sardinia would not play ball and let us send an email
as we passed by…
Overall the crossing from Sardinia to Majorca was very good….one
very rough early morning when Sue and I experienced winds of 25 knots and an
auto pilot that didn’t want to work as we had the stay sail up not expecting
The hardest part was 4 nights of night watch and the lack of real sleep
that accompanies it…especially when you have tankers or fishing boats
right behind you and not willing to alter course….although watching the
sunset and sunrise do make up for it…!!!
We enjoyed some sunshine and more visits from the dolphins……with
our recently purchased provisions we ate very well. Mike taught Sue
how to use a Sextant…..useful when all this gadgetry goes wrong to
pinpoint our position!!
Touching wood it would appear that the mechanical and engine problems
seem to be behind us…!!!!
Looking forward to a good nights sleep and spending time relaxing with
my brother and his wife….
