What a terrific couple of days we have had in Darwin.
Yesterday in doing my pre –flight checks I found that a two of the
four bolts holding the coupling in place have sheared = potentially a huge
problem. I called Nafae, an Egyptian mechanical engineer and after a few words
in Arabic he offered to come in on Sunday and take a look. Nafae was terrific
and the problem is smaller than I expected, a rare but welcome event. Tonight
we went to Diane and Murray’s penthouse in the tallest building in Darwin.
We had a great evening even though Hugo broke an earthenware
ornament........exit stage left. After 4 hours I managed to get a new cable
from the chartplotter down to the AIS. I still have new lifelines to install
and a myriad of tasks to perform before we depart for Indonesia on Wednesday.
We will be there for 40 days.
The great news of the day is that Maddie and Will will be
with us for 26 days in December in Thailand. The agreement was for only 17 days
so I am delighted that the kids want to be on board for extra time. We head iff
ti Sri Lanka on the 2nd January – exciting times ahead.
Love to all and happy 18yh to Nicole. Congrats to J & G
on raising such a great kid – we all know what and effort it takes.
