So far so good onboard Titania, in the last 24 hours
we've had a steady 20+ knots of breeze and have been trucking along down wind
averaging 9-10 knots of boat speed. Life onboard has settled into a good routine
- EAT, SLEEP, SAIL, REPEAT along with the many other jobs that need doing each
day.
From time to time we have been lucky enough to see some
of the sea life out here in the Atlantic Ocean. Dolphins have been a fairly
regular sight so far and yesterday at sunset we were treated to maybe 50 or more
Bottlenose Dolphins jumping clear of the water all around the boat. Several of
these then spent time riding the bow wave of the boat.
Whales have been sighted in the distance, although we've
been unable to identify which species the tell tale spray from their blowholes
as they surface has given them away. We had a visit from a pod of Pilot Whales
which cruised past very close to us.
Sea birds such as Storm Petrels and Kittiwakes can been
gliding low over the ocean swells looking for their next meal. Flying fish are
regularly seen leaping clear of the water having been spooked by the boat
and so far a couple of these have ended up on deck.
When conditions allow Todd, Freddie and myself have been
trolling squid-like lures behind the boat in hope of a fish. So far we have been
fairly successful with 2 nice Mahi-Mahi landed and a third (which was obviously
the biggest - you can see it on the photo below) managed to slip the hook while
we were trying to land it.
The fish have made a couple of delicious meals and
fingers crossed there will be plenty more fish to come over the next 10 or so
days.
