Whew! What a week! But finally we have made it
across the channel . Hurrah!
We left our mooring on the Hamble on Tuesday 25th
August. It was a very hectic time and extremely emotional. Thank you to everyone
who came to see us off. Thank you too to everyone who has sent messages and
emails. Your support really is appreciated.
Our original plan was to sail to Weymouth,
then head out over the channel. However we have been plagued by bad weather and
gale force winds all week and have been forced to take shelter,
first in Yarmouth and then in Poole. We finally left Poole on Sunday 30th August and arrived in Guernsey
late afternoon on Monday. With wind and tide against us we only managed to
travel at about 3mph so it was the longest channel crossing ever!
Waves were fairly big and we took on quite a bit of water.
So, at long last, here we are in St Peterport,
Guernsey. Ironic I think that I regularly used to fly here, arriving in
good time for a 10am meeting, yet it's just taken the best of a week to travel
here on this occasion! We will stay here for a couple of days to dry
out a bit.
Our plan is to leave on Wedsnesday 2nd September
and head down to Vannes, wind and tides permitting.
Take care everyone. Bye for now.
