Present Position ''28:07.45N
15:25.31W''
Passage: Portimao - Las Palmas (Gran
Canaries)
Crew: Rob, Nick, Steve,
Gary.
For the week stopover in Portimao (Algarve) we
enjoyed perfect sunshine & warmth, our first after the rigours of a Scottish
summer! This gave us plenty of opportunity to complete Kasuje's preparations and
give her a clean and polish. The two Bob's,Joan and Rita joined us from Spain
during the week and we greatly enjoyed a perfect couple of days coastal cruising
in fine calm conditions.
The crew of Rob,Nick,Steve & Gary.
affectionaly known as the tractor boys, joined at the weekend for the
passage to Madeira and Las Palmas.
Unfortunately a severe case of Mal De Mar hit us
soon after leaving Portimao and we had to return to the Algarve to regroup and
give the guys a chance to find their sea legs. This we did in the fishing port
and haven of Sagres, bobbing about on a mooring buoy and once recovered we set
off again on the Tuesday morning for the 90 hour passage direct to Las
Palmas.Unfortunately due to time restrictions we were unable to visit Madeira,
this is the second time I have failed to make this island, maybe it will be
third time lucky.

feeling much
better!
A pensive Potter.
We had a good downwind sail with mixed
following seas and the guys did brilliantly sharing the night watches and slowly
acclimatising to life afloat. Steve and Gary whittled the watches away with a
marathon music quiz which although fell short of mastermind levels would have
scored heavily on the Ken Bruce show.
War wounds from a few days at
sea
Gary after a successful swallow
dive into the dinghy.

We named this beautiful view '' Sunrise over Antigua''
Guess whose bum?
Las Palmas was reached in time for us to watch
England loose narrowly in the final of the Rugby World Cup, but with an
Australian video ref, we were never going to be awarded that perfectly good
try!!

Skip, fully dressed for the World Cup
Final.
Nick starting to smile again.
After the previous weeks exertions a day of
R&R was the crews orders and Las Palmas did us proud with a stonker of a
Spanish three cigar Sunday lunch ,fireworks and a religious festival. Gary was
last seen having an emotional moment at the head of the parade.
So that's the end of Leg 1, thanks to all who have
joined us to date, Kasuje is now resting in Las Palmas marina awaiting our
first major ocean passage.
So bring on the Atlantic!!
