Day 14
Departure Day.
Finally we have left Porto Mindelo at 1145hrs on a hot sunny morning, then
we headed south west, next stop, St
Lucia..
As we motor sailed for the first few hours, we passed the
beautiful rugged and barren island of Santo
Antao, the crew were having a guessing game about
the highest point on the island. Some were claiming it to be higher then
Snowdon, others NOT, so to try and resolve the discussion Gareth brought out the
sextant, but the exercise was inconclusive, as we left the island we managed to
sail for a while, and then the wind dropped so we put the engine on, otherwise
we will not reach St Lucia for the Rum parties. The rest of the day was spent
topping up our tans. Whilst the sun was setting Dennis prepared another
wonderful meal ‘Portuguese fish dish with veg’ followed by a blackberry cake
with fresh cream, and then we started our watch systems. Very confusing due to
the difference in time, as we cross different latitudes the time changes, we are
now 2hours behind on 16N..
