Hannibal’s Carthaginian capital in Iberia and the scene of mighty battles against the Romans – at least as re-enacted by the locals each September! We’re here to suss out another possible over-wintering place, recommended by a couple we met anchored 20 miles up a river in Spain. It isn’t as cheap as Almerimar, but it’s got a whole lot more going for it – so far only one other English voice heard! It’s a great natural harbour, surrounded by bleak looking and well fortified hills. The town itself is very Spanish and full of Roman ruins, nice bars, restaurants & shops. We’ll stay a day or two to get the feel of the place, then head on up the coast to check out one other possibility in this area. |
