51 12 N 56 45 W This came in from Trish who has also sadly now come to the end of her time on the good ship Frances B. Trish is heading back to the BVI as we prepare for our next adventure in Tasmania. We both hope Tom and nacy have a smooth trip south. We will have wonderful memories of our time with them. Our thanks are not enough 1 - Lichen. 2 - Berries galore. The colours at this time of year are amazing Ports and Anchorages: 3: Tikigatsiak. 4: Black bear skin drying Hopedale. 5:Tom eating Bake Apples - Labradors signature wild berry - also known as Cloud Berry. They smell and taste like old sox ( to put it politely) Definitively an acquired taste that I have failed to develop. But pretty plants. 6: Tom picking blueberries at Tikigatsiak - they were think on the hill and we were doing well until the breeze dropped and the Black flies drove us back to the boat. 7: Frances B in Granny's boot - a spectacular enclosed anchorage where the berrying was amazing and we sat out a strong Southerly. 8: Makkovic - a small port with fishing complex where we took on fuel - had showers at the fishing complex. Wildlife: 9: Razorbills at Herring Islands - a large colony where on the island we passed to Starboard I counted over 1400 Razorbills 10 Short tailed Shearwater: spied about 53 deg. North - These are the Mutton Birds that will soon make the migration to Tasmania and Southern Australia. So it will be interesting who will get there first - Dave and me or the Birds. According to cousin Judy - they get to Clifton beach about the end of November so we may beat them!! 11: Ice Tickle where seals lounged on the rocks 12 13 14 - Gannett Islands - an ecological reserve and Razorbill and Puffin colony - Probably the most important, in Nth Atlantic. We had wonderful weather and had clouds of Puffins wheeling around us. |
