Finally left the marina on Wednesday and came round to the bay. Seas very calm, so no waves but hadn’t reckoned on the amount of swell. It’s definitely helping A get her sea legs. Anchored in sand, off the eastern cliffs, an interesting spot with numerous caves- too choppy to explore.
The terns are noisy and make fascinating watching as they gracefully feed from the surface of the water. At night we hear the shearwater mewling, quite disconcerting ( like crying babies) until you realise what it is.
Spent yesterday sorting out lines, trying to persuade F to part with some. Each time we buy new, we just add to the collection, should be discarding at the same time. Waterline significantly lower. Now have a selection to recycle at our next port of call.
F particularly pleased with clock repair which he’s been looking at all evening. Now have a working ship’s clock which he can see from the chart table and admire! The little things are the most important.(Ed. With some justification, I might add. The clock died last year and we took the innards home to look at. Ended up keeping the hands and face and replacing the electric movement. However misplaced the mounting screws holding the guts into the case. So drilled, tapped and used new screws and added horology to my skill set.)
Decided to spend another day at anchor in the hope of there being some more wind on Saturday to take us to São Miguel. Still more things to check before we set sail.
