Gamboa do Morrow

Gamboa  is about a mile up river from Morrow de Sao Paulo. Like Morro it has no cars and sandy streets. Transport is by donkey or wheelbarrows.

The name Gamboa is derived from Indian language and means “wreath of braches” this describes the fish traps sticks made of braches sticking out of the sea.

We had planned to walk through the rainforest to Morrow de Sao Paulo, but on asking the way of locals we were told the path was not safe and we must rather take the route along the beach. Unfortunately it was high tide so we were forced to lie on the beach at Gamboa and contemplate the complexities of beach life. J

A huge rock fall close to the beach bar we sat at has resulted in a flow of pink clay and is renowned for its therapeutic properties. We watched a group of visitors smear themselves from head to toe in it before diving into the sea to rinse off.
